Contactless payment systems (also known as "tap and go" or "wave and pay") are credit cards and debit cards, key fobs, or other devices which use RFID for making secure payments. The embedded chip and antenna enable consumers to wave their card or fob over a reader at the point of sale. Some suppliers claim that transactions can be almost twice as fast as a conventional cash, credit, or debit card purchase.
Major financial entities now offering contactless payment systems include MasterCard, Citibank, JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, American Express, KeyBank, Barclays, Barclaycard and HSBC. Visa PayWave and Mastercard PayPass are examples of contactless credit cards which become widespread in US and UK.
With the security issues a standard credit card has with the magnetic stripe, a contactless payment card without the stripe offers additional securities for the consumer such as their card not easily being skimmed.
